Walking
Spectacular countryside that just has to be explored
Surrounded by genuinely breathtaking landscapes and with unique sights and experiences to discover along the way, walking in the French Alps is a revelation for the senses. But how far you take it is always up to you. You could simply choose a stroll through Alpine meadows (sounds idyllic) or take on a more challenging hike to panoramic viewpoints (it’ll be worth it).
In any event, every walk will be unrushed and enjoyable with plenty of time to soak in the views and capture those all-important photos. And to help you make the most of it, your expert guide will share insights about the region, its history, and wildlife along the way.
And whether you stop at a mountain refuge for a hearty traditional repast or enjoy a feast of a picnic in a spectacular setting, lunchtime is always a highlight of the day.
Walk 1: Vallée des Avals
Explore the stunning Vallée des Avals, a peaceful Alpine valley surrounded by dramatic peaks. Your expert guide will point out ibex, marmots, and chamois as you roam through this breathtaking landscape.
Stopping in a tranquil mountain setting, you’ll enjoy a gourmet spread before continuing your scenic journey.
Walk 2: Refuge du Saut
Hike to the Refuge du Saut, a remote mountain hut hidden beneath towering peaks. Along the way, spot Alpine wildlife and discover unique mountain flora.
At the refuge, you’ll enjoy a well-earned lunch with spectacular views before making your descent through this rugged and beautiful terrain.
Walk 3: Refuge de Nant du Beurre
This scenic trail leads to Refuge de Nant du Beurre, offering panoramic views across the Tarentaise region. You’ll pass through meadows and along ridgelines, and have the opportunity to spot wild ibex and chamois.
After a thoroughly rewarding hike, you’ll enjoy a delicious mountain lunch at the refuge before your descent.
Walk 4: Lac Lou to Chez Pépé Nicolas
Starting at the tranquil Lac Lou, you’ll hike through meadows and rocky trails with stunning Alpine scenery.
Your journey ends at Chez Pépé Nicolas, a charming mountain farm where you’ll enjoy a delicious Savoyard lunch in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

From the irresistible array of seasonal produce, artisanal cheeses, and regional delicacies, you’ll select your ingredients. Finally, you’ll take them to a nearby home for an intimate professional cookery demonstration and to enjoy your delicious creation.
If you’re a wine lover, you can indulge your passion at a local vineyard, where you’ll learn about and enjoy the unique character of Savoie wines. On the way home, you’ll stop at a scenic mountain bar overlooking Lake Annecy. We’ve found this the perfect spot to sip a glass of wine while watching paragliders drift gracefully across the sky—a magical way to end the day.
